BHS Fine Arts Addition 50% complete
BHS Fine Arts Addition 50% complete
In December, construction on Belton High School’s new fine arts addition surpassed the 50% completion point. This project will add 3,200 square feet for a dedicated orchestra rehearsal hall, sectional room and three practice rooms, along with renovations to 1,200 square feet of existing band hall, instructor office space and the band music library. It will also include an update to the main entrance of the campus.
Belton ISD began offering orchestra in the fall of 2007 with a small number of students participating in high school. When Belton Middle School was repurposed to a ninth-grade center in the fall of 2014, Belton High School’s orchestra program began to use the band hall there. In August 2020 with the opening of Lake Belton High School and the ninth grade center again serving as a middle school campus, the board took action to ensure Belton High School’s orchestra program will have a new, dedicated space for the start of the 2020-2021 school year.
"Our orchestra program has really grown over the last couple of years,” Belton High School Principal Ben Smith said. “I remember when I was an assistant principal at Lake Belton middle school and it was just a few students in a classroom, to now we have over 250 kids in the program, and they've done an exceptional job!”
