Teams Gobble and Wobble to Victory at Annual Food Rally
It was an early morning packed with energy at the annual Thanksgiving Food Rally sponsored by Belton H-E-B and Belton FFA that benefits local families by stocking their pantries for the holidays.
Over 90 teams of Belton ISD students, staff and community members charged into the store at 6 a.m. Thursday with a mission: fill their baskets with food from a printed list of grocery items the fastest.
The winning team, from Southwest Elementary, completed their run in under 15 minutes.
Teams collected Thanksgiving items including stuffing, gravy, green beans and a turkey. Participants had to gobble and wobble like a turkey before collecting their poultry.
Belton FFA and H-E-B have partnered for over 20 years to hold the annual food rally that provides holiday meals for local food banks in our area.
Helping Hands Ministry and Belton Church of Christ collected the food donations at the race’s conclusion. They will provide meals to families in need including members of Belton ISD’s Communities In Schools program.
Brad Hobbs, Belton High School agriculture teacher and FFA sponsor, and co-organizer of the event, says this year’s rally had the most registered teams in the rally’s history and believes it will continue to grow in the future.
